It's not easy to be here and it's not so hard if we try. Itis very long story from last year, since submission of application, testing TOFEL and being interviewed by Professor and JDS committee. Until now I still cannot believe that I am here in Japan. Oh my god!!! It's really happened. It's a great honor and very lucky that I was chosen to be one of the JDS fellows in 2013. Besides feeling proud of being here, I feel pressure. Before coming, I always thought that even it's hard but I know I can do that, but when I am here I wonder how I can do that. At any rate, at least I have a great opportunity to study in ICU and we are the first two Lao GS students here. I will do my best on my study to gain a lot of experience on education system both in Japan and various countries. Not only academic achievement, I hope that I could learn how Japanese people work and study, and I wish I could exchange Lao culture with Japanese and others friends in ICU and outside the campus. During two years in Japan, I hope my knowledge will grow up more than what I can get at my age, and my vision and mission on my career of developing education in Laos will be wider and bigger.

Hi everyone..my name is Phoebe from the Philippines. It has always been my heart?s desire to study abroad and pursue my Master Degree. So when I got the scholarship, I was so thankful to God for this rear opportunity. At first, my family was so apprehensive of me going here in Japan because of the recent March 11 Earthquake and Tsunami devastation but God has greater plan for me. I assured them that if we will just trust everything to Him, He will surely protect us. When I was asked to choose my preferred university, without second thought, my first choice was ICU. The mere fact that it is a Christian university; it was also an international campus making ICU as a multicultural institution where students can meet other race from different countries all over the world. The scenic view of ICU was indeed breathtaking. Who would ever tire of watching the beautiful trees that surrounds the campus, not forgetting the cherry blossoms? They even said that ICU is a university within the forest but I?d like to call it my new paradise. ICU was also one of the prestigious universities here in Japan, where students can acquire a lot of knowledge and skills notwithstanding their facilities e.g. library. I was really awed with the way you can immediately look for references, books you need by just accessing the internet. All in all, I think I would love my stay here and looking forward for the next two years to be fruitful academically and spiritually.

I will benefit much from the study method learned from my respected tutor, and the study method could be more important to me than his knowledge and expertise in the public utilities field because learning how to think is more valuable than gaining direct knowledge.

Moreover, methods in Japan might not be implemented in China by rote. On the contrary, tools learned from professors in various principles and majors will be more flexible and useful in solving specific problems in China.

I am so lucky that I could become a JDS Fellow and a student of ICU. ICU, not a big university as we know, is a very famous private university in Japan, with its strong strength and reputation in the liberal social science!

ICU creates such a great international and multicultural study environment! Here are my personal impression on the ICU: there are many famous teachers from Japan and abroad, and many international students from Asia, America and Europe, etc.; the local Japanese students whose English are very good and apparently better than those outside of ICU, are more open-minded and more international; the faculty staffs here are friendly, hard working, and always waiting for offering help to you; the campus is small, quiet, but pleasant and lovely.

As a Chinese student, thanks to Japanese government, JICE and ICU, I can study in this beautiful campus and dive into the Japanese culture and society, sharing with my other international classmates.

To a student from China, a special more significance will be even added to my study here, because that currently there are difficulties and challenges between Japan and China politically, and more exchanges between the people, especially the young people, of both nations are needed.

A recent poll conducted in China shows that nearly 70 percent of surveyees consider the relationship between Japan and China is important. I can't agree with it more! For the long-lasting peace and prosperity of two neighboring nations, or even the whole Asia, we need more exchanges, more trust, more understanding, more cooperation and more friendship!

Studying here at ICU, I, in fact, have already become a participant for the exchanges between the people of two nations. Again, I'd like to say: I feel lucky and appreciate for becoming a JDS Fellows and an ICU student! Anyway, I like ICU, its beautiful and quiet campus, unique multicultural setting, and ICU people!

Personal Statement: Vivian A. PerdigonStudying at International Christian University through JDS Scholarship was an opportunity for me.  I experienced to mingled with other foreign students, share ideas, and learn more things.  CU is a very good university.  Being an international school, all the facilities especially the library are rich of reference materials that we need and we use in preparations of our final papers.  Our sensei are very kind to impart with us what they know in respective to our subjects. ICU staffs are very accommodating.  The environment is very conducive for learning.

After two years of studies with ICU for my masteral course in public administration, I believe that my personality being a citizen, a civil servant and ambassador will be more developed. With my early months of experience here in ICU and living in Japan, I noticed the different values of cooperation, good governance, hard work, good leadership, etc. Values that must be possess by any employees that are pledge to serve his fellowmen and most of all, his country. This is my chance to show the changes I have when I came here in Japan and when I go back to my country, Philippines.

Personal Statement: Uyanga I am grateful to the people of Japan for making this wonderful opportunity available to us! I feel that their expectation of the scholarship recipients is that we maximize its benefits to our countries by thoroughly researching the problems faced, with their causes and consequences, and helping to come up with concrete solutions.

I feel the only way to repay is to commit ourselves to further ensuring their implementation, whatever we do, wherever we are in the future. Moreover, I feel this requires us to be the living embodiment of a vision, a vision to see our countries develop and prosper, both materially and intellectually.
